Phase 009: The Highlands, Day 1
Leg 1: The Journey Begins
Brandon and Lisa are rarin' to go.
The fabulous MacBackpacker's bus, ready to speed us away on our
fantastical voyage.
Our tour guide, Eiligh. Pronounced, ahem, "Ailey."
Leg 2: Craigvinean Hermitage Brae
As the sign says.
We're hear to hear tales of Scotland's tallest tree. Oooh,
aaah.... Something like 18 whole metres. Wow.
Enjoying the view of the river below.
Leg 3: The Edradour
Apparently this is the smallest legal distillery in
Scotland. And as we learned, "Edradour" means "Between two rivers."
Our guide through tour of the distillery bears a remarkable
resemblance to everyone's favourite 104 year old miser, Mr. C.
Montgomery Burns. But don't tell him that. Excellent.
Apparently they use a very special type of "Danger Water" here
at the distillery.
Oh, there's the equipment of alcohol production there now.
The gift shoppe, with their own Edradour Cream Liqueur.
Ooooooooh, so schmoooth going down. Aaah. More please.
Leg 4: Pitlochry
Just in case you need a quick escape.
It's the people in the background (or, in this case, to camera left)
that make a picture memorable. Okay, everyone stick their arms out!
Thanks, lady.
I wonder what they sell here?
Leg 5: Entering The Highlands
Oooh, mountains.
A quick petrol break.
Leg 6: The Ruthven Barracks
How historic.
Leg 7: Loch Ness
We didn't see Nessie, but there was a guy at a research station
looking pretty haggered. Does that count?
The tour group. Note the two disrobed gentlemen, who decided
to take a little swim in the loch. There wasn't enough whiskey
for the rest of us to take that plunge.
Leg 8: Inverness
The city of Inverness, which we learned means "At the mouth of the
River Ness."
